2022/23 Excellence Award Winners Announced!

May 16, 2023

On April 15th, ImmUnity Canada held our Excellence Awards Dinner in Ottawa and recognized the achievements of those in our community who have given back or gone the extra the mile. We are pleased to acknowledge the 2022/23 Excellence Awards Winners:

Excellence in Healthcare Award: Dr. Robert Schellenberg

This award was given for his ongoing excellence in patient care with primary immunodeficiency.

Excellence in Nursing Award: Marianne Miguel

This award is given to a nurse in recognition for demonstrating excellence in nursing in the field of patient care with primary immunodeficiency.

Jacques Dagnault Excellence in Volunteering Award: Paola Andrea Fernandez de Soto Abdul-Rahim

This award was given for her hours of work at ImmUnity Canada and getting the word out about primary immunodeficiency. With her tireless advocacy for “Jakob Little Fighter”, she created a presence for SCID to be talked about in Canada. Her advocacy for access to SCID newborn screening, gene therapy in Canada and raising awareness is incredible. Andrea also wrote a book, made toys, cookies, stickers and more! She found the time to host a podcast for our organization, become an active board member, join the conference committee and actively fundraise.

R.Michael Whelan Excellence Award in BC: Janice Kelly

A member of the BC chapter who best represents the values of volunteering and selflessness, advocacy and education, safety and health as shown through its namesake and original board member of CIPO, Mike Whelan.

ImmUnity Canada Immunology Resident Research Grant Award: Dr. Kevin Lee, UBC

Congratulations to all of our award winners! We are proud to have such wonderful members of our community.

We’re sick and tired, but we’re not alone.
