Meet Anna, one of our new membership volunteers!

What motivated you to volunteer?
I retired May 2023 and finally had time to volunteer and find a non profit where I could contribute and hopefully make a meaningful impact. I saw an ad in the local newspaper that seemed to be a perfect fit for my skill set and they offered generous working hours flexibility.
Tell us a little about what you’ve done as a volunteer.
I am new to the role and so far I have emailed all our medical professional partners our newest brochures and am about to reach out to all our members with a phone number to update their information and to let them know about upcoming events and membership benefits.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering with ImmUnity Canada?
I love working with a small friendly, appreciative team who are passionate about what they do and who are empowering, educating and supporting their members and families.
What is your greatest accomplishment as a volunteer and how did you go about achieving it?
It’s too early to say!
What have you learned about yourself from volunteering with ImmUnity Canada?
Volunteering has reinforced that I love to be busy helping others and I like to be giving back now that I have the time.
How has volunteering for us had an impact on you?
I, my spouse, and friends were all worried how I’d cope when I retired relatively young from a challenging 60+ hour work week. I loved what I did but it was time for a new chapter in my life. I knew I loved and needed to be busy, I wanted to continue to help others, and still wanted and needed a people focus. Volunteering with Immunity Canada has been the perfect transition in retirement that has given me a continued sense of purpose and self worth. It is an organization that is making a significant difference and with more resources, funding, and support could make even a bigger difference.
