In rural and remote Canada, rare disorders exist at the intersection of two structural realities: rarity and remoteness. Each presents its own barriers. Together, they compound one another.
ImmUnity Canada and the Network of Rare Blood Disorders (NRBDO) are pleased to release our newest report: Rare Disorders, Remote Realities: Mapping the Gaps in Care in Rural and Remote Canada, which examines not only access to diagnosis, care, and treatment for those in rare communities; but also the impacts of separation from one’s community for prolonged treatment, the need for additional time off from work and school, and the impacts of poverty on access to care.
Culminating the report, we offer seven recommendations for improving access to care for those living in rural and remote communities.
We welcome you to read the full report below.
