Romika is a second year medical student at the University of Ottawa, with a strong background in facilitation, peer mentorship, and community health. Over the years, she has led virtual group sessions, wellness-focused workshops, and advocacy initiatives through a variety of organizations, helping people feel supported, included, and empowered. Passionate about patient-centered care and pursuing a future in immunology, Romika hopes to create a welcoming space where young adults with PI can connect, share experiences, and support one another. When she is not studying, you can usually find Romika exploring new cafes, hiking scenic trails, or baking sweet treats to share with friends and family!

When did you start volunteering for us? This fall
What motivated you to volunteer?
As a medical student with an interest in immunology, I wanted to get involved in a space where I could connect with and support others. I was drawn to CommUnity Connect because it offers the opportunity to learn from people’s experiences, share ideas, and contribute to something meaningful within a supportive and inclusive community.
What do you hope to get out of volunteering as the Young Adults CommUnity Connect Facilitator?
I hope to build stronger connections within the community, foster meaningful conversations, and help create a supportive environment where young adults can share their stories and feel understood. It’s also a great opportunity for me to grow as a communicator and learn how to better engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
What is one of your hidden talents that not many people know about?
I’m great at making detailed travel itineraries really quickly, I love finding hidden gems and local spots wherever I go!
