With a global increase in need for plasma due to the production of essential plasma derived medications, such as immunoglobulin. In order to keep up with demand, Canadian Blood Services and Grifols are continuing to open more plasma donation centers across Canada, with the hope of reaching 50% plasma sufficiency- obtaining half the plasma needed in Canada from Canada.
Last week, Canadian Blood Service’s announced that Canada’s plasma sufficiency for immunoglobulins has improved from 12.8% during 2020 to approximately 26% today.
To continue this effort and reach their 50% goal, Canadian Blood Services (CBS) and Grifols are expected to open seven new Plasma Centres in 2025.
The new centres are located in:
- Cambridge (GRIFOLS)
- Etobicoke (GRIFOLS)
- Hamilton (GRIFOLS)
- North York (GRIFOLS)
- Thunder Bay (CBS)
- Whitby (GRIFOLS)
- British Columbia – Undecided (CBS)
