Volunteer Position/s: Membership Volunteer
When did you start volunteering for us? March 20th 2024
What motivated you to volunteer?
Meeting new people, getting involved in the community and using my time to help others. I try to learn new abilities and skills and as a newcomer in Canada, I think volunteering it’s a great experience.
Tell us a little about what you’ve done as a volunteer
I’ve been sending emails to our members to update our database. I also had the opportunity to attend a meeting with our team and the Mayor of Victoria to receive a Proclamation for the World Primary Immunodeficiency week.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering for us?
The work enviroment. Having the chance to meet a nice little team, so easygoing and friendly.
What have you learned about yourself from volunteering with ImmUnity Canada?
The impact of volunteering in organizations. In order to provide resources, information and support to our society, most nonprofits wouldn’t be able to make a big impact without all the support from volunteers. From sending emails to maybe be a speaker in a conference, every little action makes a difference to contribute a bit more.
How has volunteering for us had an impact on you?
When I first started volunteering, I was not feeling very good emotionally. I was feeling like I was not part of the community and didn’t have many friends. In Immunity Canada I felt welcome and included and that was very much what I needed at that time. I’m very grateful for that.
If you could encourage someone else to volunteer for ImmUnity Canada, what would you say?
It’s a great place to be and meet cool people.
