The British Columbia Ministry of Health has announced the addition of three metabolic and genetic conditions to the newborn screening panel in BC and the Yukon. Crucially, the new testing includes severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), as well as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and biotinidase deficiency.
ImmUnity Canada has advocated for the addition of SCID to the provincial newborn screening program since 2020. Working with immunologists and BC families, we are pleased that our campaign has been successful.
