IPOPI Calls on Increased Plasma Supply

October 12, 2020

Last week was International Plasma Awareness Week and IPOPI (the International Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiency) has announced “7 Measures for Increasing Plasma Supply”

During IPAW 2020 we have been calling for national, regional and international decision makers to consider ways of safely increasing plasma collection, by following 7 specific measures. Sufficient plasma collection is much needed to ensure that many patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) continue to access the life-saving immunoglobulin replacement therapies.

Demand for immunoglobulin has been continuing to rise at a rate of 6-8% yearly in the past years, therefore, ensuring sufficient collection and supply of plasma is an ongoing concern. The COVID-19 pandemic has also led to a worldwide decline of blood and plasma donations and we will all need to continue our advocacy to ensure sufficient and sustainable plasma collection in the future.

Thank you all for your continued support and help! Read IPOPI’s plan here.
