On April 3rd, 2019 the Senate Committee on Social Affairs voted unanimously to recommend that the Senate not move forward with Bill S-252, the Voluntary Blood Act (a bill to amend the blood regulations).
This is very good news for the PI community and all of those who require plasma protein products, as this bill would ban the compensation for plasma donation. Canada currently buys over 80% of its plasma products (including IVIG and SCIG) from the US, all made from compensated US donors.
